Executive Director’s Report

November 3, 2009 Board Meeting

Celebration
The Celebration was a huge success! I am very happy to report that I have received a lot of positive feedback about this year’s event. We haven’t collected all the registration fees or sponsorships but invoices have been sent out and phone calls have been made. The August financials will not reflect the total revenue for the event which was $6,911.79. I once again want to thank Kim Moore, Judith Barrett, Anika Fields, and Jackie Pugh for all their hard work.

City and County Funding
It was a successful budget year for human services! Despite the economic downturn, the City and County both held human services funding harmless. Funding for UPHS from the City was scheduled to receive a funding decrease of $8,000 but we were able to have that funding reinstated. I want to thank all the members who emailed the Commissioners and attended the budget hearings.

Trainings
The 2009/10 Training Schedule for UPHS is still in draft form. I am continuing my search for trainings for the subjects identified by our members. The trainings are inexpensive and a great way to support your staff and UPHS. The first training, Strategically Thinking Outside the Box, is November 10th. A copy of the schedule is attached.

Strategic Planning Meeting
Members of the UPHS Board participated in a strategic planning meeting on Friday, October 30th. Shawn Baldwin, Director of the Certified Public Manager Program at FSU, volunteered her time to facilitate the meeting for us. It was a very productive meeting and the group was able to really nail down some of the key things we as an organization need to work on this coming year. A summary of the meeting is attached.

COAD
I have been participating in the Community Organizations Active in Disaster along with several other board members. This is a great way to raise awareness for our organization and has provided me with some great networking opportunities.

Complete Count Committee
I have been selected to Chair the Complete County Community-Based Organizations Subcommittee for Leon County. The mission of this group is to educate our citizens about the importance of completing the 2010 Census and to ensure as many people as possible turn in their Census forms. Keep an eye out for more information coming from me regarding Census-related activities and promotional items.

Opportunity Tallahassee
Last week, I did a presentation on UPHS for Opportunity Tallahassee. My presentation was part of the health care & Human Services segment that was hosted at Big Bend Hospice. There were approximately 40 people in attendance many of whom did not know about UPHS.
